RESILIENCY

Utility customers expect power to be available where and when they want it and without restriction.  To meet such customer high expectations for power availability, the Smart Grid must be highly resilient and redundant.

GridCom is designed is a highly resilient, with multiple redundant communications pathways to ensure no single point of failure. The mesh architecture self-organizes and is capable of automatically rerouting around failures, providing built-in resilience and reliability within both the mesh and the PTMP network layers. In addition, the ability to simultaneously leverage multiple frequency bands on mesh and PTMP links (e.g., 2.4 GHz, 3.65 GHz and 5 GHz) and to failover between them helps ensure that localized interference on any one frequency band can always be routed around.

Integrated battery backup protection options allow Tropos mesh routers and PTMP base-station sectors to continue to operate for 12 hours or longer in the absence of line power. Dynamic channel selection, adaptive noise immunity and other advanced RF resource management techniques provide added resiliency.

Carefully designed GridCom 2.0 networks have achieved overall system reliability metrics of >99.999% availability in the real world.
