Tropos GridCom 2.0 is the first standards-based comprehensive wireless distribution area network architecture for smart grids.  It enables utilities to deploy an optimal blend of high performance wireless network technologies which both meets their smart grid communication requirements and is economical.

Abstract

This paper charts the evolution of electric utility communications requirements for building the network of networks needed for smart grid communications.  It lays out the roles of the different communications technologies and standards within the context of the hierarchical organization of smart grid communications network and describes the attributes of GridCom 2.0.
