Kansas City Board of Public Utilities Selects Tropos Networks for Smart Grid Communications
Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (KCBPU) is using Tropos GridCom™ across its 127 square mile service territory. The initial use will be for AMI backhaul of 70,000 Elster EnergyAxis® electric meters and 56,000 Neptune water meters. KCBPU had used a cellular network for its AMI pilot but found its reliability, coverage and economics were inadequate.

Tropos and Itron Joint Solution Selected for Avista’s $38M Smart Grid Demonstration Project in Pullman
Avista’s Smart Grid Demonstration Project in Pullman selected a Tropos GridCom network which will initially be used for backhaul of Itron OpenWay® meters for 13,000 electric and 5,000 gas customers.  In addition, the project includes extending the Tropos network to provide high-performance communications for DA devices (reclosers, capacitor banks, and transformers) across 13 distribution feeders.

Avista: At the Forefront of Smart Grid 2.0
Avista is underway with rollout of two Smart Grid 2.0 projects in the state of Washington, in Spokane and Pullman. These projects encompass multiple Smart Grid applications - distribution automation, AMI, customer Web portal, and demand response.
