I don’t need a crystal ball to know that 2011 will be a big year for Tropos and our customers who are implementing Smart Grid projects. I wanted to share with you the 5 key trends I see developing in the smart grid market that I believe will expand in the coming year. These trends further validate my belief that Tropos will continue to provide utilities the best choices for smart grid communications.

Silicon Valley Power Selects Tropos for SVP Meter Connect™ Smart Grid Project
SVP selected Tropos as its private distribution area network for AMI, distribution automation, and mobile workers communications.  In addition, the City of Santa Clara plans to leverage the same network to cost effectively deliver other city services.  Municipal field workers will be provided mobile access, improving efficiencies, reducing operational costs versus cellular cards, and delivering greater bandwidth.

Burbank Water and Power Selects Tropos for Smart Grid Communications
BWP recently completed its Smart Grid proof of concept and selected Tropos’ private wireless distribution area network which will be used to aggregate communications for utility electric and water AMI, distribution automation, and mobile data for field workers.  “…we needed a highly reliable and resilient system with strong security, sub 20 millisecond latency and at least 5 Mbps bandwidth.”, said Bruce Hamer, Smart Grid program manager at BWP.
