TROPOS SELECTED AS A FINALIST FOR TECHAMERICA’S AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY AWARDS

SUNNYVALE, CA -- May 17, 2011 - Tropos Networks, the best-of-breed provider of wireless IP broadband networks for the smart grid, is pleased to announce it has been selected by the TechAmerica Foundation as a finalist for the American Technology Awards in the Smart Grid and Smart Instruments category. Judges selected Tropos based upon its outstanding smart grid communications technologies that deliver high reliability and performance, strong security, and in-depth visibility and control of their wireless network.

Utilities use Tropos private broadband network technologies for aggregating communications of multiple smart grid applications such as AMI backhaul, distribution automation, substation security, and mobile workforce.  Tropos smart grid customers include Avista, DTE Energy, Burbank Water and Power, Glendale Water and Power, and Silicon Valley Power.

“We are pleased to have been selected as a finalist by TechAmerica for the American Technology Awards competition,” said Tom Ayers, president and CEO of Tropos Networks.  “As utilities create a multi-use foundation upon which to build their smart grid communications network, we continue to experience significant demand for our products. This award recognition, along with our customer successes, is further validation of our technologies.”

“This year we saw a number of nominations from many companies new to the competition,” said Dallas Advisory Partners Founder and TechAmerica Foundation Chairman, David Sanders. “We congratulate all of this year’s finalists, and look forward to celebrating their achievements with them at the Technology and Government Dinner.”

TechAmerica Foundation’s American Technology Awards, “The Termans”, bestows national “Best Of” awards that recognize all technology products and services across the technology industry. Nominations for “The Termans” were vetted by industry experts and TechAmerica Foundation leadership. These awards were named after Frederick Terman, who is widely credited as being the father of Silicon Valley.

The winners will be presented on June 15 at TechAmerica Foundation’s ninth annual Technology and Government Dinner, in Washington, DC that brings hundreds of industry, congressional and government leaders together at one venue to celebrate the partnership between industry and government.
