Abstract

Avista is underway with rollout of two Smart Grid projects in the state of Washington, in Spokane and Pullman. These projects encompass multiple Smart Grid applications - distribution automation, AMI, customer Web portal, and demand response. For both these projects, Avista has selected to use Tropos GridCom, a private wireless broadband network that economically aggregates communications for multiple Smart Grid applications. This case study provides an in-depth overview of Avista's projects, expected goals, and the requirements of the communications network.
